Part One & Part Two of Building a Sanctuary in the Heart combined in one volume represent the first two of nine volumes of the Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh series— an exciting approach to the building of a close relationship with Hashem.
Part One of the sefer details practical steps in attaining the state of “feeling attached to Hashem” at all times. Part Two returns to the themes of Part One, but offers even greater clarity by devoting a full chapter to each distinct aspect of spiritual growth. The nature of the “heart” is treated at length, as well as how it can truly be reached and changed.
The name of the sefer, Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh (“In my heart, I will build a Sanctuary”) sums up the three elements of this Torah-based method for coming closer to HaKadosh Baruch Hu. The goal is to create in oneself a “sanctuary” wherein the Divine Presence can rest. The method is to slowly “build” the Sanctuary, layer by layer, in a concrete way that is both simple and profound. The tool is “my heart.” The author guides the reader on how to arouse his inner feelings using the medium of directed thought and speech.
All the principles presented in Bilvavi Mishkan Evneh are based solely on the wisdom of the Torah, rather than intellectual analysis or the author’s personal feelings. The combining of the two initial volumes form the first rungs of climbing the spiritual ladder that brings us closer to Hashem.
We trust that the reader who studies this work seriously will develop a genuine enthusiasm about spiritual growth, gain new insights into self-improvement, and find the motivation to really change and to feel closeness to the Creator.
